Potential solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve energy efficiency for the eight most energy-intensive industrial sectors in the UK, have been published.
The Industrial Decarbonisation and Energy Efficiency Roadmaps to 2050 have been published by Department of Energy & Climate Change (DECC) and Department for Business, Innovation & Skills (BIS): produced by a consortium of Parsons Brinckerhoff, which recently combined with WSP, and DNV GL. The reports mark the culmination of eighteen months of collaboration between the British industry, government, academia and NGOs mapping out the possible routes the sector could take over the next 35 years to make the transition to a low-carbon economy. The project received feedback from over 450 stakeholders. The eight industry-specific reports create a long term view of the potential for industrial decarbonisation and energy efficiency, and address a range of interconnected issues to help inform future decision-making. Paul Noble, head of the WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff consortium said: "These roadmaps pave the way to a flourishing, low-carbon, and competitive future for these industries. Our consortium looks forward to working on these future challenges with the government and industry." The reports follow a series of sector workshops including a major London workshop on February 4, hosted by Parsons Brinckerhoff and DNV GL, which had a keynote address from the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, Ed Davey, with insights from leading industry and technical figures.
