Aberdeen, United Kingdom – 4 December 2020: The global technical advisor to the oil and gas industry, DNV GL, has received two accolades – in the Energy Transition and Technology categories – at the 2020 Energy Industries Council (EIC) Awards.
The event, held on December 3, recognised capabilities, strategies and resilience across the energy sector. Some 39 companies competed for awards across 11 categories.
The Energy Transition award recognised DNV GL’s exploration of how the use of hydrogen as an alternative source of heating houses, can contribute to the delivery of the UK’s 2050 net zero carbon goal.
Most notably, the company was commended for its work in developing, for H21 the ‘HyStreet’ research facility, in collaboration with the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS), Ofgem and Northern Gas Networks, to provide evidence of how hydrogen can be used safely in homes. The project is taking place at the Spadeadam Testing and Research Centre in Cumbria, UK.
The company was presented with the Technology award in recognition of its novel and agile approach to solving clients' problems, with a particular focus on providing technology perspectives and insight to stakeholders.

Natural gas boilers in homes account for almost a fifth of the UK’s carbon emissions and we believe hydrogen will play a key role in decarbonising domestic energy supply. We are looking forward to working with National Grid and Ofgem to study the transmission of hydrogen to homes as part of the FutureGrid project.”
