The new edition of the quality management system standard ISO 9001 is released
The revised ISO 9001:2026 has now been published, marking the first update to the world's most widely used quality management system standard since 2015.
The new edition reflects developments in business practices, organisational resilience, digitalisation, and stakeholder expectations, while maintaining the familiar structure and core principles that have made ISO 9001 the global benchmark for quality management.
ISO 9001 is the quality management system standard implemented by more than one million organisations worldwide. It defines a framework for the delivery of products and services that consistently meet requirements, improve performance, and enhance customer satisfaction.
What has changed?
While the structure of the standard remains familiar, the revision introduces a number of updates designed to reflect changing business realities and align more closely with the latest ISO harmonised structure. The changes are considered evolutionary rather than revolutionary, helping organisations strengthen performance while maintaining continuity within their management systems.
Transition to ISO 9001:2026
Organisations certified to ISO 9001:2015 will need to transition to the new version within three years, in line with the transition period defined by the international accreditation community.
DNV supports organisations throughout the transition to ISO 9001:2026 through webinars, training, and transition audits, helping companies align their management systems with the requirements of the revised standard.
