The partnership between both organisations continues where BHP Billiton is building on the achievements of C.R. Luigs for the Neptune development in the Gulf of Mexico, which features another GlobalSantaFe rig, the GSF Development Driller I.

The awards come as no surprise given the excellent relationship between GSF and BHP Billiton and the approach to HSE adopted by both companies. DNV worked with both rigs conducting assessments against the requirements of BHP Billiton’s World Wide Drilling HSE and Community Management System, assisting both organisations in their pursuit of excellence.

DNV staff was hugely impressed by the shared culture, joint leadership, and how both organisations use their health, safety and environmental activities to drive their business performance. HSE communications and considerations influence every operational decision. There is a culture of zero tolerance towards unsafe acts and conditions. Crew members are empowered by proving that every operation is safe to start, not unsafe to stop.
