Although coal is still the fastest growing fuel, environmental concerns favour oil over coal and gas over oil. With nuclear energy it is a matter of trading off nuclear waste concerns against concerns about global warming due to greenhouse gas emissions.
DNV is assisting oil and gas companies in the entire value chain, from exploration, production and transportation to refining and distribution. Examples of this are our current involvement in LNG supply chain projects in Russia, the US, Europe and Asia. Currently, there are significant worldwide activities to develop the deep and ultra-deep water frontiers, and DNV is providing cross-disciplinary expertise in field development strategy, technical and operational aspects and risk management.
DNV is also playing a role in the development of cleaner energy and renewable energy sources to ensure that the business potential is unlocked in a safe and responsible manner. Examples here include the assessment of carbon capture and sequestration in combination with enhanced oil recovery solutions, verification systematics on the storage of CO2 in underground reservoirs in the US, feasibility studies of large-scale compressed air energy storage in depleted reservoirs, aquifers and salt domes in the UK, certification and qualification of wind farms in Europe, and the piloting of a hydrogen infrastructure project in Norway.
DNV has been assisting oil and gas companies in safeguarding and improving business performance for many years. We are committed to continue to do so in the wider energy perspective.
