Independent business units

DNV’s two Independent Business Units (IBU) have been given some freedom in order to accommodate their respective markets. These are:

DNV Research and Innovation
DNV Research and Innovation is the corporate unit dedicated to strategic research and innovation. The prime focus is on new knowledge and technological areas having a longer term impact on our business growth. Their activities identify future technology trends, they build new competence and services in DNV and ensure early market positioning and branding of DNV as a technology leader. DNV Research and Innovation is involved in international research projects as well as development projects together with clients or industry sectors. The research unit is established at Høvik, Norway but are currently building up research satellites on a global basis.

DNV Software
DNV Software develops software systems for design, strength assessment, risk analysis, asset life cycle management and knowledge based engineering. The software systems are Brix, a framework for safeguarding customers engineering knowledge, Nauticus, for the maritime industry, Sesam, for the offshore industry, and Safeti, for the process industry.
