DNV+contributes+to+sustainable+healthcare+in+China

Zhengzhou: Zhengzhou Orthopedics Hospital in central China’s Henan Province has become the first Chinese hospital to apply for DNV’s International Accreditation Standard, which addresses patient safety and quality of healthcare. The two parties signed the agreement in the provincial capital Zhengzhou on 17 May.

"We chose to work with DNV because we believe that DNV can support the sustainable development of our hospital," said Lian Hongkai, president of the hospital. President Lian added that his hospital’s initiative is one example of how China’s leadership and all stakeholders in the healthcare sector are setting ambitious goals for achieving accessible, quality, safe and efficient healthcare for the entire Chinese population.

Zhengzhou Orthopedics Hospital, originally founded in 1952, is a nationally famous public hospital with a staff of 747, dedicated in Orthopedics with integrative Chinese and western medical treatment.
Vice Mayor Liu Dong who is responsible for Zhengzhou's healthcare administration said at the signing ceremony, "The cooperation between two parties is an active exploration that Zhengzhou Orthopedics Hospital is making, by focusing on core elements of medical services such as quality and safety, to continuously improve medical services, guarantee medical safety and achieve sustainable development."

DNV Sustainability Centre’s Managing Director, Per Marius Berrefjord, also commented, “Public hospital reform has become a critical part of China’s objective to improve the delivery of healthcare services. DNV is committed to support healthcare providers with methodology and tools for continuous improvements in quality, safety and efficiency.”

Mr Gao added that DNV’s healthcare team including Project Manager Kimberly Yu is now working side by side with the hospital staff and carry out the gap analysis involving a team of both Chinese and foreign surveyors. The output of the analysis is to determine the requirements of the hospital for a future accreditation to the DNV international accreditation standard.

DNV international accreditation for hospitals is based on the DNV NIAHO® Hospital Accreditation Program approved by the US Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to accredit hospitals in the United States.
