After the IACS Common Structural Rules (CSR) entered in to force 1st of April 2006, there is still a competence gap in the industry on how these new Rules shall be applied for practical ship design. With DNV’s ambitions in the bulk carrier market, and with Chinese shipbuilding industry as the fastest growing shipbuilding nation for bulk carriers, it was therefore natural to arrange the first CSR Bulk training in Shanghai and Dalian in June. More than 50 participants got an introduction to the new Rules along with a first introduction to the brand new Nauticus Hull software supporting CSR Bulk.
As a follow up to the courses in June another round of two-day training was arranged again in July. This time with more focus on practical exercises using the Nauticus Hull software, demonstrating how it may be used as an effective support for hull design according to CSR for both Oil tankers an Bulk carriers. Also these courses attracted a wide audience, with nearly 50 participants.
The training courses were very well received and the participants were impressed about the new Nauticus Hull software which as the only software in the world now provides unique support for the CSR for both Oil tankers and Bulk carriers.
“The launch of the software in Nanjing demonstrates DNV’s commitment to support the Chinese shipping and shipbuilding industry,” says Øystein Goksøyr, DNV Software’s regional manager in Greater China. “The new Nauticus Hull Software enables us to deliver front-end software for the new tanker and bulk carrier almost in sync with CSR development, thus making it the premier software for the design and strength assessment of both these vessel types.”
