Common Structural Rules The IACS Common Structural Rules (CSR) entered in to force 1st of April 2006. DNV is now scaling up its activity world-wide to assist clients in implementing the CSR. |

LNG Carrier intended for Arctic service With the increasing demand for transport of oil and gas in the Arctic areas, the steel grade selection becomes even more important, and the voluntary class notation DAT has an increasing popularity for tankers and LNG ships. However, going through the Rules, some clarification have been found applicable to LNG ships, and the Rules are now being changed accordingly. |

Erroneous rule publication (July 2005 issue) - Pt.3 Ch.1 Sec.16 A502 (Fatigue Control) An erroneous rule publication came into effect with the July 2005 issue of the DNV Rules for Classification of Ships. The new rule text published at the reference shall be disregarded and the original text, as of January 2004 shall remain extant. |

Marpol 73/78 Annex VI DNV has made a paper highlighting some of the most important aspects of the regulations entering into force on 19 May 2005. The regulations includes many new aspects related to design of ships, but even more related to operational issues. |

The A to Z Annex II revision In April, IMO MEPC 49 finally agreed on how MARPOL Annex II should be revised, with a scheduled formal adoption at MEPC 52 later this year, in October. The changes are scheduled to enter into force on 1 January 2007, together with a revised Chemical (IBC) Code. more |

Condition Assessment Survey As a consequence of the Erika disaster the phase out dates for single hull tankers were enforced in an amendmend Regulation 13G of Marpol Annex I. We have provided an Information Paper about the CAS survey requirements. This paper is updated on the decisions taken at IMO MEPC 50 in December 2003. |

New Convention on Ballast Water Management adopted by IMO From the 9th to the 13th February IMO held an “International Conference on Ballast Water Management” for ships. At the conference the new International Convention for the Control and Management of Ship’s Ballast Water and Sediments was adopted. |

Report from the IMO 50th session of the Marine Environmental Protection Committee On 5 December 2003 the MEPC 50 adopted an amended Regulation 13G of MARPOL 73/78 Annex I on phase out of single hull tankers and a new regulation 13H on carriage of heavy grade oil. They will enter into force on 5 April 2005. The Condition Assessment Scheme was also amended. We have provided an information letter to Oil Tanker Owners. |
