As a Radio Survey is a statutory service, delegated to DNV by the Flag State, the surveys are carried out on behalf of a particular government. The survey requirements, technical requirements and manning requirements may hence vary from state to state, depending on what Flag State DNV represent on a particular survey. For the same reason the extent of the survey and type of certificate issued also varies, depending on the vessels flag.
Radio surveys shall normally be carried out every 12 months by a qualified radio surveyor.

After completion of the survey, a survey report is written, and the applicable certificate is issued or endorsed.

The EPIRB Annual Test Report is completed during the Radio Survey and signed and stamped by the attending DNV surveyor, if all the requirements for the EPIRB is found OK.
