The numerical tools include surface oil spill models that simulate the spreading and fate of a surface slick; and subsurface oil/gas models, simulating subsea plume formation and hydrocarbon concentrations in the water column. The models are integrated in GIS-systems as stand-alone models or as part of oil spill contingency
planning tools.
DNV models also include tools for determining chemical concentrations in the water masses, and the dispersion and seabed sedimentation of drill cuttings and mud.
DNV has acquired unrivalled knowledge of bunker oil properties through Veritas Petroleum Services (VPS), having analysed fuel oils globally for more than a decade. This knowledge is utilised within the field of oil spill modelling.
