Essent Energy: Behaviour Based Safety programmes
DNV Consulting helped Essent Energy to improve its safety performance by initiating a behavioural change in the organisation.
Critical issues: - Essent Energy, like many industrial companies, identified human behaviour as one of the major direct causes for incidents and accidents
- Essent did not want to create additional regulations and procedures, and realised that a cultural change with respect to individual safety behaviour was needed
- Essent wanted to focus on safety in order to improve the overall business performance
Solutions: - Tailored material was developed to introduce risk knowledge (e.g. risk matrices, loss causation model, behavioural observation)
- Essent Energy selected safety themes, such as working at height, electricity, work permits, etc
- DNV Consulting developed, together with Essent, easy to use materials such as booklets with themed materials, posters and roll-out presentations
- Coaches were trained by an external psychologist and feedback was generated which was used in the further development of the programme

- We assisted in programme management in order to increase risk awareness for all employees and to create a focus on the most important issues
