Shell, Chevron Texaco, US Mineral Management Services: Lifecycle profit model for subsea multiphase boosting operations in deepwater

A new method to identify areas of uncertainty related to subsea pumping and processing technology was developed by DNV Consulting and ENI.

Critical issues:

  • To date subsea pumping and processing technology has not been demonstrated to its claimed merits, primarily because of the uncertainty associated with the operating expenses and intervention costs
  • Actual field experience seems to be the instrumental force to ultimately qualify the subsea processing technology

Solution:

  • Systematic testing complemented with analytical tools such as reliability predictions were used to proactively identify shortcomings that may have otherwise gone unnoticed

Value delivered:

  • The new method developed can be used to identify areas of uncertainty related to subsea multiphase production pumping
  • It can define a rational approach to support the decision making process in the qualification of total subsea processing solutions
