INTSOK (The Norwegian Oil and Gas Partners), The Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD), and Nigerian stakeholders: Enhancement of local content in the upstream oil and gas industry in Nigeria
Critical issues: - The low local content in the upstream oil and gas industry has been a concern for Nigerian authorities
- Consequently, the Nigerian authorities have requested both Nigerian and international oil and gas operators to increase the local content of their contracts
- In practical terms, this has been a challenge
Solution:
DNV was contracted to carry out a two phased programme for improving the quality and safety standards of a group of Nigerian fabricators, consisting of: - A phase to select participants to the programme
- Training in SHE management
- Training in technical skills
- Consulting support
Value delivered: - Phase 1 resulted in 5 companies being selected for the training programme. In addition, it ensured support from stakeholders in Nigeria as well as in Norway
- Phase 2 (the training programme) will enhance company capability and skills of the participating fabricators, so that they become qualified subcontractors or Joint Venture partners for the international oil and gas companies in Nigeria
