Certification Process

Certification by an independent third party can help you communicate to stakeholders that your security system is compliant with the WLA Security Control Standards©. But what does the certification process entail?

How do I become certified by DNV?
Your security system is always subject to change. A successful security system is one that is improved on a continual basis. If it is not maintained it is possible that it will become obsolete. Therefore, the certification consists of two stages: the primary certification and maintenance of the certificate thereafter.

  1. Optional pre-assessment (status study)
Our auditor checks that the standard is implemented to the degree that the lottery is ready for certification. The lottery may choose if all the Standards are to be covered.

  2. Document review
Our auditor reviews the documented security system against the requirements in the relevant Standards.

  3. Initial visit
A visit to the Lottery is made by our auditor to gather information before the initial audit of the operation. The auditor will also look at the degree of implementation for the system and if discipline specialists are needed for the final audit.

  4. Certification audit
During the certification audit, we conduct informal interviews, examinations, and observations of the system in operation. It provides us with essential information required for the certification process and assesses the degree of compliance of your company’s security system with the requirements of the Standards. We also monitor a lottery drawing.

  5. Follow up
Our auditor verifies the corrective actions implemented for non-conformities, if non-conformities are found during the audit.

  6. Certificate issued
DNV issues the certificate of compliance.

At this stage you have completed the initial certification and can move on to maintenance of your certification.

  7. Periodic audits
Each issued certificate has a three-year life period. Upon certification, we will create a periodic audit schedule for regular audits over the three-year period. These audits confirm your company’s on-going compliance with specified requirements of the Standards. At least one periodic audit per year is required.
