Supply Chain Security Management Systems - ISO 28000

When managing the risk for your organisation securing your supply chain is becoming increasingly important. Due to increasing regulatory requirements (AEO, C-TPAT and others) your logistic organisation is meeting ever increasing requirements.

The ISO 28000:2007 standard has been developed to assure that supply chains become secure. The standard specifies security requirements for (multi modal) supply chains, including the production/manufacturing, information management and the facilities for purchasing, shipping (picking and packing), storage and trans-shipment of goods as well as the multimodal transportation of goods (cross-borders) between locations.

ISO 28000 was first published in 2005 by ISO (the International Standardisation Organisation) and is not only applicable to multinationals but also to small- and medium size enterprises. When companies are engaged in one or more of the links in the supply chain as manufacturer, shipper, forwarder or service provider and they want to develop, implement, maintain or improve their security management system the ISO 28000 series provides a clear risk based approach.

Companies that meet the requirements of this standard not only evidence to their business partners that they are secure operators but they are also better protected against criminal acts like smuggling and cargo theft. Compliance to the standard reduces security incidents and supports a problem free “just in time” delivery of materials and products.

The ISO 28000:2007 standard assists companies in meeting the specific requirements on Supply Chain Security Management as formulated by the customs of the US (C-TPAT), the EU (Authorised Economic Operator) and of the World Customs Organisation (WCO).
