Established under the Kyoto Protocol, the JI scheme is an incentive to companies in industrialised countries to reduce emissions through cooperative efforts. When participating in a JI project, you can meet your reduction commitments abroad where greenhouse gas (GHG) abatement costs are lower. The Kyoto Protocol requires that certain JI projects are subjected to determination and/or verification by an operating entity, i.e. third party verifier.
On this JI Projects homepage, we will help you understand the what and why of the JI scheme—what it is and why your business will benefit from participating in a JI project.
Partner with DNV for:
- Determination (validation) of your JI project. This is a prerequisite if the host country has not established a GHG inventory and reporting procedures in accordance with the Kyoto Protocol.
- Verification of emission reductions credits and project compliance with criteria defined in the Kyoto protocol.
The road to verification will help you prepare for the independent audit.
The UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) is working on an accreditation scheme for operating entities. DNV expects to become UNFCCC-accredited as an operating entity under the Joint Implementation scheme to perform independent project verifications of emission reductions. DNV is already accredited by UNFCCC for Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects.
