About the standard ISO/IEC 20000
ISO/IEC 20000 represents a widely recognised basis for evaluating IT Service Management processes.
The standard defines a comprehensive and closely related set of service management processes and comprises two parts:
• IT service management Part 1: Specification for service management’ contains the requirements for effective application and documentation of an IT Service Management System (ITSMS). It does by defining a set of 13 processes with their objectives and controls. ISO/IEC 20000 is the basis of the assessment and certification.
• IT service management Part 2: Code of practice for service management’ contains the best practices for the IT Service Management processes defined in Part 1. It provides guidance to organisations in understanding the formal requirements of the specification and enables organisations to “understand how to enhance the quality of service delivered to their customers’. Based on the long established IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) it distils the best practices from the Library into 25 pages of essential quality standards for IT Service Management processes.
